About Laurie

Here’s all you really need to know about me.

I love lifting weights.

I started weight training at 50 after beating my body up with running for over 30 years. It was love at first lift for me and I am completely entrenched in the lifting life now. While I started out with a trainer in a gym, the pandemic gym closures led to the set up of my home gym, where I’ve been happily lifting ever since.

I’m a photographer.

I love taking photos and almost always have a camera on me. I got serious about photography in 2008 because I wanted to take better photos of my dogs. I’ve grown a lot as a photographer since then, and even sold my work at art shows for a few years. I stopped selling in 2017 and now photography is a serious hobby and passion. I have two other websites for my photography including thefotofox.com and dogmama.blog.

I’m a dog lover.

When I first started out on my own, my goal in life was to have a house with a yard so I could get a dog. It took a while to get the right house, but once I did, I got a dog. And I’ve had at least 2-3 dogs at any given time ever since. I’m one of those people who prefers dogs to humans and I don’t apologize for it. Dogs are just better company, period.

Classic Rock is my jam.

Everyone thinks that the music they grew up with was the best music, and I’m no exception. The classic rock genre spans multiple decades but I’m most enamored with the music from the ’70’s and ’80’s which is what I listened to as a kid. It takes me back to a more carefree time and, at least for a little while, I can forget about how fucked up the world is now. If I’m down, I’m always just one Van Halen song away from a complete attitude adjustment.

Finally, this pandemic-inspired Internet meme pretty much sums up who I am:
